Similarity and Plagiarism Detection
Turath Journal is committed to maintaining academic integrity and ensuring the originality of submitted manuscripts. To achieve this, the journal employs Detectia, a similarity detection tool integrated with the ASJP platform.
Similarity Detection Process
-
Submission and Initial Screening:
- When an article is submitted via the ASJP platform, the editor initiates a Detectia scan to evaluate the manuscript's similarity index.
- The results are categorized into three levels based on the percentage of similarity detected.
-
Similarity Thresholds and Actions:
-
Red Zone (30% or higher):
Articles with a similarity index of 30% or higher are rejected outright due to a high likelihood of plagiarism or excessive similarity. Authors receive a copy of the similarity report to understand the basis for rejection. -
Yellow Zone (20–30%):
Articles within this range undergo further analysis by the editor. The editor reviews the manuscript to determine if the similarity arises from properly cited quotations or common phrases.- If issues are identified, the author is required to revise the manuscript to reduce the similarity index to below 20%.
- Authors receive a copy of the similarity report with detailed feedback and instructions for revisions.
-
Green Zone (Below 20%):
Articles with a similarity index under 20% are considered accepted for evaluation as part of the double peer-review process, provided they meet all other submission criteria.
-
Editorial Evaluation
For manuscripts in the Yellow Zone, the editor carefully examines:
- Proper use of quotations and citations.
- Instances of repeated phrases that may not constitute plagiarism.
- The overall impact of the similarity on the originality and contribution of the manuscript.
If revisions are necessary, authors are notified and given specific instructions to address the issues.
Final Decision
Only articles with a similarity index below 20% and that satisfy TURATH Journal’s editorial standards and submission criteria proceed to the double peer-review process.
This policy ensures the integrity of Turath Journal’s publications and upholds ethical standards in academic research.
