Abstract
Cultural heritage is one of the important elements for achieving sustainable development because of its economic, social, cultural and environmental impact. Indeed, it is an axial component working to activate the other sectors, in particular those of tourism, transport, traditional industries and food industries. This will allow small and medium-sized enterprises to grow so that they can offer jobs and attract financial income in local and foreign currency.
Algeria has clearly perceived the importance of such a heritage, since it seeks to invest in the sector of cultural, social and economic legacies, aided by what it possesses as cultural resources in tangible and intangible heritage, and other various natural resources including the strategic geographical location and the availability of national parks classified as international cultural heritage.
It is established that the cultural heritage is an important source of peoples and nations’ culture, transmitted from generation to generation which marks it, at each period of its transmission, by its historical aspects, its cultural, social and ideological characteristics. In all this, it shows the ability of the latter to interact with other areas, thus qualifying him to trace the specific features of communities, their identities and civilizational and cultural affiliations.
This paper deals with the particularities of this heritage and its role in achieving sustainable development through its various elements, we will also have to examine the interest shown in the latter, by exposing, studying and analyzing its social, economic, and cultural impact; while seeking, at the same time, processes capable of preserving it and preventing its extinction and the hazards favoring its deformation.
